The Mawi Valley

Set within the dramatic landscape of Lombok, The Mawi Valley is a modern tropical villa development shaped by its relationship with nature, climate, and terrain. Our approach was to create architecture that feels grounded within its surroundings while responding thoughtfully to the site's steep natural contours.

Although the villas appear as single-storey buildings from the road, each actually comprises two levels, carefully integrated into the sloping terrain. The main living spaces are oriented toward the surrounding views, allowing the architecture to frame the landscape as an essential part of the living experience.

The two villas explore contrasting expressions within a cohesive architectural language. One adopts a more masculine character through a distinctive star-shaped roof and strong angular lines, while the other introduces softer curves through its modified hipped roof and fluid layout. Natural wood, stone, and concrete finishes reinforce the tropical character of the architecture, creating a grounded material palette that strengthens the connection between the villas and Lombok's landscape.
