Bintaro Design District 2026

Bhuana Lango is an interactive architectural installation created by Lumbung Architect for Bintaro Design District 2025, as part of Lintas Batas. The project explores the invisible boundaries between nature and technological progress, movement and stillness, memory and the present.

The concept began with the instinctive journey of a female sea turtle, which crosses vast oceans before returning to the beach where it was born. We saw this ancient cycle as a reflection of the human condition: a continuous search driven by memory, longing, survival, and the desire to return. This narrative became the foundation for the spatial experience of Bhuana Lango.

Architecturally, the installation combines this natural cycle with the paradox of the Penrose Staircase—a structure that appears to continuously ascend while ultimately leading nowhere. The circulation creates a spatial illusion where visitors feel that they are progressing, while simultaneously moving within a recurring cycle. Five platforms represent the stages of a turtle’s life: birth, migration, exploration, return, and regeneration. At the center, water and greenery represent the ocean and the balance of life.

Through this interactive installation, we invite visitors to reconsider what “moving forward” truly means. Bhuana Lango does not seek to provide an answer, but creates a moment of reflection—where ambition meets instinct, movement meets memory, and architecture becomes a medium for questioning our relationship with progress, nature, and ourselves.
